Shipping categories

The Shipping Categories configuration in SellStack allows administrators to classify products based on their shipping requirements or restrictions. Each shipping category defines a logical grouping of products that share similar delivery characteristics, such as size, weight, or handling conditions.

Shipping categories are particularly useful when different shipping methods should be available for different types of products. For example, fragile or oversized items may require special delivery options that differ from standard parcels.

Each shipping category consists of a name, code, and optional description. Once defined, it can be assigned to products and referenced by shipping methods to determine eligibility or restrictions.

By configuring shipping categories correctly, administrators can ensure that only compatible shipping methods are presented to customers during checkout. Although clients can set shipping categories on their own, currently, this entity is not used. SellStack is integrated with SmartRoutes to provide shipping. There is no need to restrict shipping methods when using SmartRoutes.
